Carson City father arrested after 2-year-old found wandering North Carson Street

A 31-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday in the 1900 block of North Carson Street for gross misdemeanor child endangerment after his 2-year-old child went missing for at least 30 minutes, a sheriff’s deputy said.

According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched at around 6:30 p.m. to the area of a pharmacy in reference to a child in need of supervision. Dispatch was advised that a 2-year-old child was in Carson Street, the child’s parents were not around and that it was dark outside.

A deputy met with the reporting party who explained the incident. The RP said she was driving north on Carson Street and was turning into the pharmacy parking lot and noticed a small child walking on Carson Street.

She said she pulled her vehicle in front of the child to block traffic to protect the child. She stated she got the child out of the road and waited in the parking lot for deputies to arrive. She was sitting with the child in the back of her pickup when officers arrived.

When she met with a deputy she advised that after 20 minutes she thought it was odd that no one had come looking for the child, who was unable to talk, say any words, was not properly clothed and wasn’t wearing shoes.

Deputies attempted to locate the child’s parents in the area. A deputy checked the trailer park behind the pharmacy and spoke with several people who said they were not missing their children. At this point the child had been missing for 25 minutes and Child Protective Service was notified to take custody of the child. A deputy responded to the scene to help transport the child to the sheriff’s office while waiting for CPS.

A deputy then observed two female subjects walking toward the trailer park. The deputy asked them if they recognized the child. The subject said they thought the child belonged to the maintenance man for the trailer park. The subjects led the deputy to the man’s trailer and provided his name. The deputy asked the man if he was missing his child and he told the officer no.

The man was with his friend and both men then went to check on the child and noticed he was missing. The man told the officer his son’s name was Adrian and was missing and began to act frantic. He said he did not know the child was missing. The officer brought the child to the father and contacted the man’s wife who was at work, so she could be with the child.

The man explained that he and his friend were inside watching television and did not notice the child was missing. He said the child must have opened the sliding glass door and walked out. The child had been missing for at least 30 minutes.

The man was arrested for suspicion of child endangerment and the case was forwarded to child protective services. Bail: $2,500.

— A 29-year-old Gardnerville man was arrested Tuesday in the area of Saliman and Sonoma streets for misdemeanor loitering around a school.

According to the arrest report, a deputy responded to Seeliger Elementary for a report of a man near a bench who was yelling and moaning. Deputies made contact with the man who stated he had slept on the bench all night and didn’t have anywhere to go.

He declined any medical help or police assistance. He had constricted pupils, was on the nod, mumbling and appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance. He then left the area on foot.

A few minutes later a juvenile waiting for the bus advised the man was on Saliman Road yelling. At approximately 7:27 a.m. a school bus driver and 2 passersby contacted dispatch to report the man as intoxicated, sleeping standing up or in need of medical help.

Deputies made contact again with the man, this time at the intersection of Saliman and Sonoma. Several juveniles were around the area walking to school. The man had only walked one block down after the initial deputy contact where he was asked to leave school grounds. The man was placed into custody for loitering. Bail: $622.
