Taser used on combative Carson Middle School student
A Taser was used on a 14-year-old Carson Middle School student after reportedly being combative with officers. Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said Wednesday that the female student was in the school office, was in violation of probation and deputies were called asking that she be removed from campus.
When a deputy arrived they determined that a second officer was needed because of the situation, Furlong said. The female officer attempted to take the student into custody and the student began to fight the deputy and a taser was deployed.
The student was given a medical evaluation before being taken to a juvenile detention facility. Furlong said sheriff's office use-of-force policy is the same as adults and that the matter was turned over to Undersheriff Steve Albertsen for review. Carson City School District Superintendent Richard Stokes said Wednesday the district is also investigating the incident.
