Carson City crime log: Arrests for assault with a deadly weapon, grand larceny

A 55-year-old Carson City man was arrested Wednesday for suspicion of felony grand larceny after allegedly stealing gold coins from his father-in-law, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Patrick J. Tomsha was arrested at 6:20 p.m. in the 400 block of Sunwood Drive. According to the arrest report, the suspect is the son-in-law of the 78-year-old victim, who reported at least 17 specific gold coins had been taken out of a safe in his bedroom closet.

Deputies contacted a coin shop where it was learned that beginning on Aug. 15, and ending on Oct. 11, Tomsha conducted 8 transaction selling 17 gold coins and collecting $21,651, the arrest report states.

Tomsha denied any knowledge or involvement regarding the gold coins. He was arrested for suspicion of grand larceny. Bail: $25,000.

— A 19-year-old Carson City man was arrested Wednesday in the 1400 block of East William Street for felony suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and misdemeanor domestic battery, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Taken into custody at 8:04 p.m. was Dylan Higday. According to the arrest report, deputies were called at 5:32 p.m. to the area of Palo Verde Drive for a report by an anonymous passerby of a woman who may have been battered, had what appeared to be strangle marks on her neck and was bleeding from the nose.

During the investigation, deputies learned the suspect and the woman had been arguing and that the man smashed the woman’s cell phone with a rock, pinned her by the neck, threatened her with a knife, cut himself and left the residence, according to the arrest report.

At approximately 8 p.m. dispatch advised the man had called and said he would meet with a deputy at a coffee shop on East William Street. He was detained and read his Miranda warning where he admitted to getting into an argument and that he grabbed the victim by the throat, the arrest report states.

He admitted to cutting himself on the left wrist, resulting in non-life threatening superficial wounds, the arrest report states. He was booked for suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and domestic battery. Bail: $23,137.

— A 34-year-old Carson City man, Justin Sage Bryant, was arrested Wednesday, 8:17 a.m. in the 1600 block of Airport Road for felony suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
According to the arrest report, deputies were called to the area regarding an assault.

During the investigation deputies learned the man racked a shotgun and pointed it at the victim. He then took a belt, holding it in one hand and then gun in the other and told the female victim to “choose,” the arrest report states.

The man denied threatening the woman with a shotgun but admitted to threatening her with the belt, the arrest report states. The deputy located a shotgun and a .22 caliber rifle in the bedroom. Both weapons were empty and the deputy did not locate any ammunition. He was booked for suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. Bail: $20,137.

— A 50-year-old woman, Jeanette Brooks, was arrested Wednesday, 4:13 p.m. in the area of Humboldt and Long streets for felony suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, possession of a dangerous drug without a prescription, driving without a valid license and expired registration.

According to the arrest report, a deputy made a traffic stop for a vehicle without license plates. A temporary on the window expired Oct. 1. The woman stated her license wasn’t valid, which was confirmed through dispatch.

The deputy observed behaviors associated with methamphetamine use and asked the woman if there was anything in the vehicle. She replied there wasn’t and gave the officer permission to check the vehicle where he discovered methamphetamine and, in a glove box, Replax pills which required a prescription that she did not have. Bail: $5,264.

— A 50-year-old Louisiana man, Loron Taurean Stanley, was booked Wednesday into Carson City jail for a felony burglary warrant issued out of Carson City Justice Court and a gross misdemeanor charge of conspiracy to commit burglary. The warrant stems from an April 10, 2017 burglary at Eagle Valley Motors. Bail: $20,000.

— A 32-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Wednesday, 8:52 p.m. in the 2100 block of Bunch Way for misdemeanor suspicion of domestic battery. According to the arrest report, the woman and her husband got into an argument over his drinking. The woman asked him to leave.

As he gathered his belongings he took an internet cable, which the woman told him he couldn’t have. He stated his wife punched him in the face with her fist.

The man had dried blood in his left nostril and a cut on the outer portion of his nose, the arrest report states.
The woman confirmed she was angry at her husband for drinking but stated she never punched him.

A deputy observed a scrape on the woman’s right thumb. She was determined to be the primary aggressor and was arrested. Bail: $3,137.

UPDATE THURSDAY: The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the two people who died Wednesday morning following the two vehicle crash on I-580 in Carson City. They are Alejandra Hernandez Valtierra, 36, and Viola Santoyo Huizar, 48, both of Carson City.

UPDATE 12:42PM: Southbound I-580 in Carson City was opened as of around 11 a.m., said a Nevada State Police spokeswoman, who provided more details of the fatal crash that happened early Wednesday morning.

Both the driver of a car and a truck involved in the crash died. Their names have not been released pending notification of family members. The car, which was going the wrong way — northbound in the southbound lane — struck the truck and caught on fire, according to a NSP preliminary investigation thus far. The vehicle makes are unknown at this time.
