Carson City arrests: Altercation with vehicle, bats leads to battery with deadly weapon charges

Three people were arrested Monday for suspicion of felony battery with a deadly weapon and other charges after an altercation in the 1900 block of Boeing Way, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Robert Edwin Deuel, 47, faces three charges of battery with a deadly weapon and gross misdemeanor possession of a dangerous weapon, a stun gun. Also arrested were: Kasey Nichols, 45, for suspicion of battery with a deadly weapon and misdemeanor destruction of property and Karen Marie Manzo for felony suspicion of battery with a deadly weapon.

According to the arrest report, deputies were called at 3:54 p.m. for a report of a man attempting to run over people with a vehicle. Deputies arrived and located a male and female with injuries. A third person was seen bleeding from the face and leaving the area. Deputies located the man, Deuel, read him his Miranda rights and detained him. He was transported back to the original location of the crime to be medically treated.

He told deputies Nichols and Manzo arrived at the location with baseball bats. The two told deputies they came to the property to “talk” to Deuel. Deuel told deputies he was beaten with baseball bats by the male and female. Deuel said he broke away from the altercation and pulled his razor knife, cutting Nichols, the arrest report states.

He said he then ran to his truck to get away from the altercation while Nichols chased him on foot. Deuel then crashed his truck into the woman’s Camaro. Manzo was in the driver’s seat and was injured. Manzo and Nichols both said Deuel intentionally drove his truck into the Camaro multiple times and then backed up trying to run over Nichols. Deuel then allegedly crashed into a trailer as a result of backing up, striking Nichols and pinning him between the truck and trailer.

Deuel was arrested for suspicion of battery with a deadly weapon for allegedly engaging Nichols and causing him injury with a razor knife. He faces a second charge of battery with a deadly weapon for allegedly driving his truck into the Camaro occupied by Manzo. He faces a third charge of battery with a deadly weapon for allegedly striking Nichols with the pickup, pinning him between the truck and trailer. He also was charged with possession of a dangerous weapon for being armed with a stun gun. Bail: $92,500.

Nichols told deputies that he and Manzo went to talk with Deuel and that he used a baseball bat and smashed the driver and passenger side windows of Deuel’s truck. Nichols also said he used the baseball bat in an attempt to hit Deuel in the head and face. He was charged with battery with a deadly weapon and destruction of property. Bail: $32,500.

Manzo advised she and Nichols went to the location to tell Deuel, her ex-boyfriend, “it was over,” the arrest states. The investigation revealed and Manzo admitted after the Miranda warning that she struck Deuel at least twice in the back with a baseball bat while he was engaged in a physical altercation with Nichols. She was medically cleared and booked for suspicion of battery with a deadly weapon. Bail: $30,000.
