Carson City sheriff’s crime log: Deputies make DUI, drunken pedestrian arrests
A 39-year-old man was arrested early Saturday morning in the area of Roop and Little streets on misdemeanor suspicion of DUI, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to yield for a pedestrian, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
According to the arrest report, a deputy saw a vehicle with Utah plates driving northbound on Roop. The vehicle turned eastbound on Little. The deputy observed a pedestrian in the cross walk who jumped backwards to avoid being hit. The vehicle then quickly pulled into the parking lot of the Post Office.
The officer stopped the vehicle and met with the Mesa, Ariz., driver and noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The driver said he had a “roach” in the driver’s side door pocket. He tried to pick it up to hand it to the officer but he couldn’t find it, the arrest report states.
He said he last smoked marijuana at around 5 in the afternoon. He had red, watery eyes, a green tongue and his pupils were dilated and did not react to light. When he exited the vehicle, the burned marijuana cigarette was on the floorboard of the vehicle. He submitted to standardized field sobriety tests which indicated impairment and he was arrested. At jail he consented to a blood draw. Bail: $2,421.
— A 50-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday, 11:19 p.m. in the area of Robinson and Stewart streets on suspicion of being a drunken pedestrian. According to the arrest report, a deputy on patrol approached the intersection of Robinson and Stewart streets. As he began to enter the intersection on a green light, he noticed a subject run east across Stewart Street.
The officer had to rapidly decelerated causing the vehicle behind him to avid hitting the pedestrian. The officer made contact with the man and noticed he was unsteady on his feet and had a strong odor of alcohol emitting from his breath.
The officer asked where he was heading to. The man stated his residence but would not give further information. He stated he was walking home. The officer asked if he could call for a ride or take a taxi home. He provided a breath test of .219. The officer informed the man he was too intoxicated to walk home. He then told the officer to take him to jail. Bail: $72.
— A 34-year-old Carson City man and an inmate at Carson City Jail was booked Friday, 11 a.m. on an additional charge of suspicion of second offense violation of a temporary protection order.
The man had made a number of phone calls from jail to his mother who has an extended order of protection against her son. She said he had called her several times over the past few days. A records check of his jail phone calls showed he called his mom’s phone twice on Oct. 1, three times on Oct. 2, and twice on Oct. 3. The man was read his Miranda rights and stated he did not wish to speak with the officer and would contact his attorney. Bail: $2,500.
