Carson City deputies make arrests for alleged felony child endangerment, DUI and drugs

A 27-year-old man was arrested Saturday for suspicion of felony child endangerment, aiding/permitting a child to use or possess a firearm, negligent storage of a firearm and a Department of Alternative Sentencing violation, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Christian David McMillen was taken into custody at 10:02 p.m. following an investigation. The man is alleged to have left a loaded firearm on the kitchen counter of his residence where it could easily be accessed by children in the home. Bail: $40,000.

In other arrests:
— A 58-year-old man was arrested Sunday for suspicion of DUI and basic speeding. According to the booking report, at around 10:55 p.m. a deputy was patrolling South Carson Street and observed a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed. The officer paced the vehicle going 55 mph in a 35 mph zone.

The deputy activated their overhead lights when the vehicle continued driving south until it made a right hand turn in a parking lot. The vehicle came to a stop in a handicap spot and parked at an angle, not straight between the parking spot lines, the report states.

The driver opened their door to exit the vehicle. The officer asked the man to stay in the vehicle. The man appeared surprised by the stop. He got back in the vehicle and rolled down the driver's window. The deputy could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle. The officer asked the man if he had been drinking. The man replied he had one beer at a casino. The officer observed the man's speech was slurred and slow when answering and he had red, watery eyes, the report states.

The officer asked the man to step out of the vehicle so the officer could determine where the alcohol odor was coming from. The man opened the driver's door and stepped out of the vehicle, and wobbled side to side while trying to stand still and had to use the driver door to hold himself up, the report states.

With the man out of the vehicle, the officer could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person, according to the report.

The officer explained the reason for the stop was due to his excessive speed on South Carson Street. The man denied speeding. He was asked if he would consent to standardized field sobriety tests. The man said he would not. He said he lived a couple blocks away and would walk home, the report states.

The man then asked for his speeding ticket and to leave to walk home, the report states. The officer explained to the man that they were asking if he would perform the tests based on the driving he had already done.

The man refused and asked for a supervisor. The officer requested a supervisor to the scene. The supervisor showed up. The man asked if he could walk home after getting a speeding ticket. The man was informed again that he would have to decide as to whether to take the tests. After explaining to the man that if he refused the tests, the officer would make their decision based on their observations thus far.

The man agreed to participate in field sobriety tests. The man was read all the instructions and stated he understood. The man showed signs of impairment on the tests. He was asked if he would submit to a preliminary breath test. The man initially declined the test and then consented. He submitted a partial PBT of .208.

Based on the man's driving pattern and admission of drinking alcohol earlier in the night and the performance of the standardized field sobriety tests, the man was arrested for suspicion of DUI. Bail: $1,137.

When turning into the 3400 block of US-50 East, the vehicle came to a complete stop and then continued, coming to another full stop in the middle of the road, the report states.

The officer made contact with the driver and told him the reason for the stop. The man told the officer he was almost home. The officer asked the man if he had anything to drink. The man said no. The officer could smell an odor of alcohol coming from his person. The officer asked the man if he had anything to drink. The man said he had not. The man agreed to take field sobriety tests.
