NHP IDs Silver Springs man in fatal motorcycle crash involving horse, 3 other vehicles
The Nevada Highway Patrol has identified the man who died in an Oct. 1 motorcycle crash involving a horse on Highway 50 in Silver Springs.
Stefan R. Sobkiewicz, 49, of Silver Springs, died when his 2007 Harley-Davidson motorcycle collided with a wild horse, ejecting him in which he was then struck by three vehicles in the roadway, said NHP Trooper Dave Gibson.
The crash investigation notes that Sobkiewicz struck the wild horse standing in the westbound travel lane. His body was thrown into the eastbound travel lane where he came to rest. Just after the crash a vehicle driven by a Silver Springs man struck Mr. Sobkiewicz in the roadway followed by two other vehicles; one driven by a female motorist from Silver Springs and a motorist from Fallon.
All three of the drivers attempted to avoid hitting what they thought was an unknown object at the time in the roadway along the dark stretch of Highway 50, said Gibson. The three motorists did stop in an attempt to assist the down rider and contacted law enforcement through 911. They all stayed on scene and cooperated with law enforcement, said Gibson.
Due to the injuries sustained from the accident the horse was euthanized.
