Carson City's Starbucks to host 'Coffee with a Cop Day' on Wednesday
In honor of National Coffee with a Cop Day, Carson City's local Starbucks will partner with the Carson City Sheriff's Office to host the event, where community members can come and meet their local law enforcement men and women.
The event will take place from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Starbucks located at (Highway 50) 1410 E William St.
National Coffee with a Cop Day has become a national event and Wednesday marks the second year the Carson City Sheriff’s Office has participated, said Sheriff Ken Furlong.
The first Carson City event was held at Dunkin’ Donuts. It was very well attended and was greatly appreciated, said Furlong. This year, Starbucks asked the sheriff’s office if it could host the 2018 event.
“Coffee with a Cop Day is a great opportunity for citizens to get together with officers for a casual cup of coffee. You can sit down and chat with different branches of the Carson City Sheriff’s Office organization; there will be representatives from dispatch, administration, enforcement, patrol and detention.”
Coffee with a Cop began in 2011 in the small town of Hawthorne, Calif., as a way to foster a personal relationship between community members and law enforcement, and is quickly becoming a growing initiative across America, and the world.
According to Coffee with a Cop, "since our humble beginnings, there have been thousands of Coffee with a Cop events in all 50 states and 14 different countries in four languages. Coffee with a Cop is simple, effective, and it just plain works. Coffee with a Cop is as 'grassroots' as it gets; it brings people together to talk over coffee (or anything else you prefer) with no agenda and no speeches, just open and honest communication."
All are invited to attend. There is a charge for the coffee.
“Coffee with a Cop is community policing at its core. The simple act of having a cup of coffee with community members can be the first step in increasing trust and cooperation between the police and the people they serve,” said former COPS Office Director Ronald L. Davis.
