Carson City Fire Department, sheriff's deputies and public works were once again called Sunday evening to the Carson City landfill in the 3600 block of Flint Road for a fire resurfacing after a fire there earlier in the afternoon.
The call came into dispatch just after 9:30 p.m. of a fire with flames visible, at the east Carson City landfill. It is in the same location as the fire earlier Sunday, with flames seen from Highway 50 East.
Flames were visible on top of the pit, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office deputy who arrived at the scene. Carson City Fire Department responded with fire trucks and water trucks. A battalion chief on scene has classified the fire as a working incident and reported a 20 foot by 20 foot fire in the same location.
The fire from earlier Sunday started at around 3 p.m. with firefighters able to stop a rapid spread and gained control of the flames within an hour, and spent the rest of the afternoon and early evening putting water on the hot spots.
We will update as more information becomes available.
