Carson City area weather: Cold front brings mix of snow, rain and freezing temperatures
A blustery Saturday brought overnight rain to the valley and snow to the higher elevations, with the weather service advising the coldest part of system to happen early Monday and Tuesday mornings.
A freeze watch is in effect from Monday evening through Tuesday morning. Sub-freezing temperatures below 30 degrees possible early Monday and Tuesday mornings. The most widespread sub-freezing temperatures are forecast Tuesday morning, which could impact Carson City, Carson Valley, Reno and Sparks commutes.
The weather service advises frost and freeze conditions could kill late season garden crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.
Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.
For Sunday, Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas will see daytime highs around 50 and nighttime lows around 30. For the next couple days expect sunny days and cold nights. Daytime highs Monday will be in the low 50s with overnight lows in the upper 20s. Daytime highs Tuesday will in the upper 50s with overnight lows near 30.
Looking ahead, sunshine continues with a warmup into the mid 60s for Wednesday and low 70s for Thursday.
For Lake Tahoe area, there's a chance of snow showers overnight, with a daytime high of around 43 and an overnight low in the upper 20s. Monday will bring a slight chance of snow showers, with a high of around 44 and low in the upper 20s. Sunshine and warming will extend from Tuesday into Thursday.
