Certainly a significant amount of rain for western Nevada, according to the weather service.
Snow occurred late last night in the Sierra with 3-6 inches reported above 8000 feet, and a report of an inch of snow in Squaw Valley near 6,200 feet.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 11 p.m. Saturday night for the West Slope of the northern Sierra in areas above 8,000 feet. The advisory calls for snow accumulations of up to five inches, with periods of snow in the morning and afternoon that will taper off later this evening.
Advisory locations include: Highway 88 and Carson Pass, Highway 4 Ebbetts Pass and Highway 108 Sonora Pass.
A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means that periods of snow will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow to cover roads with limited visibility and use caution while driving.
In the greater Carson City area, we can expect an 80 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms Saturday and a 60 percent chance on Sunday.
