Street Vibrations fall motorcycle rally rolls through Northern Nevada's weather changes
Rain in the valleys and snow in the Sierra hasn’t stopped the thousands of motorcycle riders from cruising through Northern Nevada this weekend for the Fall rally of Street Vibrations.
With stops in Carson City, Reno, Lake Tahoe and Virginia City, riders decked out in ponchos and extra layers are making their way through the region, taking the long and short rides in poker runs, competitions, demonstrations and exhibitions.
While most riders are packing around the main events, many are out exploring the open roads of Northern Nevada, returning back to Carson City and Reno for their overnight stays. Lodging properties around the region report selling-out rooms well in advance of this weekend's event. The weather hasn't stopped the riders, who started arriving Thursday, with the festival wrapping up Sunday afternoon.
Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Dave Gibson notes that aside from two minor accidents involving motorcycles on Thursday, rally riders have been going easy on the roads.
Sgt. Scott McDaniel of the Carson City Sheriff’s Office said the crowds at Harley-Davidson have been sizable with no major problems or accidents to report. Riders and drivers have been respectful on the roads.
“The roads have been damp so I think everyone has been mindful of conditions, the weather and each other on the roads,” said McDaniel. Many of the recreational riders are in groups and as such, they will try and stay as close together as possible so that they all arrive safely.
In Carson City riders are gathering at the Harley-Davidson for the September Bike Fest spread across five acres. The event, which kicked off Friday night with bands, concessions and fireworks, and continues through Saturday night, features live music, barbecues, a beer garden and more than 90 vendors.
Goni Road and Research Way is closed to through traffic south of College Parkway through Sunday in Carson City for the Harley events. Meanwhile events continue through Sunday in Reno and Virginia City with parades of bikes, live music and poker runs that stretch across Northern Nevada and into the Sierra.
