A COVID-19 mitigation task force on Thursday denied requests from the state’s two urban counties to reopen bars, expressing doubt about whether doing so would stem the tide of outbreaks tied to house parties and concern about a lack of buy-in from all local jurisdictions in Southern Nevada.

The Carson City Fire Department reminds residents that personal use of fireworks is illegal in Carson City. Use of fireworks endangers those involved and can unwillingly impact those not involved.

I was out watering a few days ago and I noticed yellowjacket wasps crawling on the ground. I mentioned to my friend Will that I thought yellowjackets bite rather than sting. The Bureau of Land Management, the U.S. Forest Service, and the Nevada Division of Forestry have announced the implementation of fire restrictions for all state and federally owned lands. Several hundred participated in Saturday's Veterans Suicide Awareness walk to Western Nevada College in Carson City. The walk and Friday's planting of more than 4,000 American flags at WNC, was designed to call attention to the thousands of U.S. veterans who have returned from war and committed suicide.

Western Nevada College Student Veterans invite the Carson City community and college faculty and staff to take part in a Veterans Suicide Walk to honor and remember the many veterans who have suffered and/or taken their own lives.

On Friday, May 1, 10 a.m. Volunteers and student veterans will plant flags in the lawn of the Western Nevada College campus. Each flag represents a veteran who has ended their life by suicide. More than 8000 veterans lose their lives in this manner annually.

Rain in the valleys and snow in the Sierra hasn’t stopped the thousands of motorcycle riders from cruising through Northern Nevada this weekend for the Fall rally of Street Vibrations.

With stops in Carson City, Reno, Lake Tahoe and Virginia City, riders decked out in ponchos and extra layers are making their way through the region, taking the long and short rides in poker runs, competitions, demonstrations and exhibitions.

A outdoor feast with the main course arriving straight out of Lake Tahoe, plus an indoor muscle and fitness protein fest will be the ultimate flex and fry events of the summer on Aug. 23 at the South Shore.

The second annual Boil 'n Fry Day Festival at MontBleu Resort, Casino and Spa is Lake Tahoe's version of an old fashioned New Orleans crawdad feed, complete with live music at the resort's outdoor event center, carnival games, hot wings, barbecue, cold crafted beer and all the fried, boiled or barbecued fresh water crustaceans festival goers can eat.

It is going to get hot this coming week in Carson City and Northern Nevada. With the weather we can expect to see more bicycle, moped, and motorcycle riders out and about on roads and highways trying to keep cool in the summer heat.

In addition we will also see an increase in pedestrians as school is out and many children are on foot as they travel to locations within the city.

Fire restrictions go into effect in the Lake Tahoe Basin beginning today, Thursday, June 26. Campfires and charcoal barbecues will be restricted to designated recreation sites, and other fire-related activities will be prohibited until the end of fire season.

“With record drought conditions in the West, agencies in both California and Nevada are anticipating increased fire activity,” said Fire Management Officer, Kit Bailey. “Fire restrictions help reduce the possibility of accidental human caused fires.”

The weather is warming up providing for another great season activities throughout Carson City and Northern Nevada. One of my favorite things about spring and summer is to share as many local events, food, music, the arts and entertainment with you. We have many festivities, activities and fundraisers being planned for the coming months.
