Man jailed on felony drug charges after officers recover scale, large shard of meth
A 31-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday on felony drug trafficking and sales charges after a scale and a shard of methamphetamine, weighing 7.8 grams, was recovered during a search through bushes, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Greg Lynn Franz was arrested on three felony and three misdemeanor charges and booked into Carson City Jail with a bail amount of $34,637. Officers were tipped off about Franz making transactions in the area of Carson and Robinson streets.
Information gathered led officers to Franz and a woman nearby. He spoke with officers, stating that he was living with the woman on Division Street. A dispatch check revealed Franz was on Alternative Sentencing with a search and seizure clause for drugs and paraphernalia, the arrest report states.
The woman was asked if she allowed the man to stay at the residence. The woman stated she had, off and on for a few days. She was informed that Franz was on Alternative Sentencing and because he is staying at the residence, her residence could be searched.
The woman stated that she did have some personal use items in the residence, the report states. She stated she had been using heroin and that there were some needles in the home. The woman granted officers permission to search the home.
Officers learned that Franz earlier had tossed an electronic scale and “dumped his stash” into some bushes in the area of Curry and Robinson streets, according to the arrest report.
A deputy returned where Franz was detained and told him about the scale. Franz initially denied possession of it but then stated he would walk officers to the scale where it was located in the area of Robinson and Curry streets.
A deputy with a K9 located a baggie in the 500 block of Nevada Street that contained a large shard of methamphetamine. Franz was arrested at 9:25 p.m. on the following felony charges: Drug trafficking Level 1, 4 to 14 grams, possession of a controlled substance, possession for sales; and on the following misdemeanor charges: Drug paraphernalia, violation of pretrial supervision and arrest while being on probation.
