Next 'Ideas on Tap' Wednesday to focus on voting, elections
The next "Ideas On Tap" in downtown Carson City is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 3 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Battle Born Social Lounge, 318 N. Carson Street.
Moderator Michael Smith said the October topic, titled "No sympathy for voter apathy," will be focused on voting and the approaching Nov. 6 general election.
Panelists selected for the upcoming "Ideas on Tap" include local attorney Kevin Benson, Carson City Clerk-Recorder Susan Merriwether, Western Nevada College Political Science Professor, Dr. Robert Morin, and local Latino advocate, Elvira Diaz.
"During this forum our focal point will be centered around voting, which is the bare minimum participation in a self-governed society," Smith said. "I believe it is our moral and ethical duty to participate in our electoral process."
Other topics of discussion include early voting dates, voter reform, power of the ballot, voter education, and making sure every citizen and registered voter understands the process, Smith said.
Attendees are welcome to purchase drinks or food at Battle Born Social restaurant and bring them into the lounge during the meeting.
The public is invited to attend "Ideas on Tap," a monthly public discussion series occurring the first Wednesday of every month through December.
The forum is meant to challenge complacency and restore the lost art of conversation.
