Dense Smoke Advisory extended, Carson Tahoe prepares for 'Hazardous' smoke conditions
With the Dense Smoke Advisory for the region being extended through Tuesday night, Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center is taking proactive steps to prepare and protect patients in response to the heavy smoke conditions in our area from the King Fire. Air quality is expected to remain moderate to poor for the next several days throughout the Carson City region.
Precautions being taken include consolidating entrances at the Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center and Carson Tahoe Specialty Medical Center. These inpatient care areas have been equipped with air scrubbers and fans which have effectively maintained good air quality within the facilities.
Carson Tahoe Health recommends that community members:
— Stay inside
— Refrain from exercising outdoors
— Don’t use vacuums or gas stoves
– Keep windows and doors closed
— When driving your car in smoky areas, keep your windows and vents closed, make sure it’s set to re-circulate so you’re not bringing in outside air.

A Dense Smoke Advisory has been extended until 8 p.m. Tuesday for Carson City, Dayton, Carson Valley, Reno and Lake Tahoe areas, according to the National Weather Service in Reno. Depending on the amount of smoke, it could be further extended. As of 7:25 p.m. Monday the King Fire has burned 87,592 acres and is 18 percent contained, according to Cal Fire.
A dense smoke advisory is issued when smoke from wildfires significantly reduces visibilities making it difficult to see and breath. The smoke will continue to be a problem until the fires are extinguished, according to the weather service. Those in the advisory areas are urged to avoid prolonged exposure to the smoke and to stay indoors.
