Carson City area road report for week of Sept. 19-25; downtown paving continues Monday

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of Sept. 19-25, 2016. Work will continue on the Downtown Corridor improvement project on Carson Street. The following streets will be impacted this week:

— Monday, Sept. 19: Carson Street closed from Robinson to 5th Street for paving at the intersection of Musser and down to 5th Street. Carson Street will open by 6 a.m. Tuesday.
— Tuesday, Sept. 20: Carson Street closed from John to Musser (including all side streets).
— Carson Street will open by 6 a.m. Wednesday.
— Sophia and Ann on the west side to Curry will be closed all week.
— Carson Street now is one lane in each direction permanently.

Closure days are subject to change due to weather issues. Downtown businesses are open during construction. For details regarding traffic impacts, including a road closure, please refer to the material provided in local media outlets or go to carsonproud.com for more information. These sources are updated weekly throughout the duration of the project.

There will be lane closures on Highway 395 between Clear Creek Avenue and Snyder Avenue on northbound lanes between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., Monday and Tuesday.

Special Event Street Vibrations: There will be traffic controls at the intersections of Research Way and College Parkway and at Goni Road and College Parkway Friday through Sunday. Turning movements at these intersections will be limited.

Lane closures with traffic controls are at the following locations due to utility/road work:
— Fairview Drive between Fifth Street and S. Edmonds, Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
— Edmonds Drive south of Fairview, Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
— E. William Street between State and Roop streets, Thursday, 1 a.m. to 3 a.m.

Road closures expected at the following locations due to utility/road work. Please follow detours:
— Topsy Lane between Center Drive and Highway 395, Monday through Sunday, for all hours, local traffic only.
— Nye Lane at its intersection of Highway 50 will be closed Monday through Wednesday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
— Intersection of Baker Drive and Stafford Way will be closed Monday through Thursday,7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
— The northbound left turn lane on N. Carson Street at Hot Springs Road, Tuesday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
— Bigelow Drive will be closed to through traffic at Snyder Avenue, Thursday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In the Sierra and Lake Tahoe region, Caltrans reports the following roadwork for the week of Sept. 18-24, 2016. State Route 89 (Placer County): Work continues on a $70.1 million project from Tahoma to just north of Granlibakken Road in Tahoe City that is upgrading storm water drainage and treatment systems, adding curb and gutter, resurfacing and realigning the road, adding new left-turn pockets and widening shoulders on an 8-mile stretch of the highway.

State Route 89 (Placer County) from Elizabeth Drive to Timberland Drive: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control around the clock from 6 a.m. Monday to noon Friday for curb and gutter work. Motorists also can expect one-way traffic control from Fir Avenue to Sequoia Avenue North from 10 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m., Monday and 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Monday through Friday for roadway excavation and from Sequoia Avenue North to Cathedral Drive from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday for landscape work.

State Route 89 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $13 million water quality improvement project from Cascade Road to the Eagle Falls Viaduct over Emerald Bay. The project is constructing new drainage facilities to treat stormwater runoff and repaving a four-mile section of the highway.

State Route 89 (El Dorado County) from Cascade Creek to Bayview Campground/Vista Point: Motorists can expect a full highway closure from 4 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday for grinding and paving work. Motorists also can expect one-way traffic control from Cascade Road to Bayview Campground/Vista Point from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Thursday for grinding and paving.

State Route 89 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $25 million project from the "Y" junction with U.S. Highway 50 in South Lake Tahoe to Cascade Road, north of Camp Richardson. Curb, gutter and sidewalks will be added in the 1.1-mile four-lane section, and the highway will be widened in the two-lane section to Visitor Center Road to provide 4-foot paved shoulders on each side. Drainage systems are also being built and the roadway is being resurfaced. Completion is expected this fall.

State Route 89 (El Dorado County) from 5th Street to West Way: Northbound and southbound motorists can expect the #2 lane closed from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. for shoulder work. Motorists also can expect one-way traffic control from West Way to Cascade Road from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday for shoulder work.

State Route 28 (Placer County): Work continues on Placer County’s $50 million Kings Beach Commercial Core Improvement Project from State Route 267 to Chipmunk Street. Highway work includes installing curb and gutter, sidewalks, roundabouts, lighting and drainage systems to enhance pedestrian and bicycle mobility, improve safety and provide water-quality improvements. Completion is expected this fall.

State Route 28 (Placer County) from Fox Street to Beaver Street: Westbound motorists can expect shoulder closures from 7 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday for utility work. Eastbound and westbound motorists also can expect one-way traffic control at Coon Street from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday for curb, gutter and sidewalk work.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Bedford Avenue to Canal Street: Westbound motorists can expect the No. 2 lane closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday through Friday for pavement work.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) at Schnell School Road: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control on Schnell School Road from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday for bridge work. Westbound motorists can expect the No. 1 lane of Highway 50 closed from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and 5 p.m., Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday and eastbound motorists can expect the No. 1 lane closed from 8 p.m., Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday for bridge work.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from 5 Mile Road/Paul Bunyan Drive to Parkway Drive: Westbound motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday for drain cleaning.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Echo Summit to Mt. Ralston Road: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday for grinding and paving work.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Chiapa Drive to Santa Fe Road/Apache Avenue: Eastbound and westbound motorists can expect the No. 1 lane and right shoulder closed from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday for paving.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) at Upper Truckee River Road: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Monday through Wednesday for paving.

State Route 89 (Placer County) from Trout Street to Oak Street in Homewood: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., Friday for roadway excavation on a bike path extension.

State Route 89 (Placer County) from Twin Crags Drive in Tahoe City to Alpine Meadows Road: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Friday for pavement work.

State Route 193 (El Dorado County) at the South Fork of the American River/Chili Bar: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday for bridge work.

State Route 267 (Placer County) from Martis Creek Bridge to the Ranger Station road: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday for pavement work.

A 63-year-old housekeeper was arrested Thursday for 14 counts of credit card fraud and other offenses after allegedly stealing a credit card belonging to an 86-year-old patient who family members said was being treated for a stroke at a local care facility, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office detective.

On May 15th, 2024, shortly after midnight, deputies with the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence located on the 600 block of Angela Street in Fernley, Nev., reference a caller who reported that he had murdered his mother. The caller additionally provided that he barricaded himself inside the house, was armed with a rifle, and had planted pipe bombs at the residence.
