Intoxicated Carson City man jailed after pushing firefighter, threatening deputy

A 25-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday evening in the 6900 block of Bigelow Drive for resisting a public officer, a misdemeanor, and battery on a firefighter, a gross misdemeanor, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched to Bigelow Drive to assist the Carson City Fire Department with an intoxicated subject who was throwing punches in the air and becoming violence.

The man was extremely intoxicated, and had scratches on his feet, back, knees and arms. During the deputies conversation with the man, he was unable to stand on his own and fell down multiple times, the report states.

Deputies spoke with the man’s mother, who said he was extremely intoxicated and wanted him to go to the hospital. She said she did not feel safe leaving him at home with his wife due to his intoxication level.

The man refused to go to the hospital for a medical evaluation. They came to an agreement that the man was going to stay at his residence with his friend and his wife would go to his mother’s house for the night. Deputies escorted the man into his residence. While escorting him to the doorway, the man fell to the ground again.

He made it into the house, and then immediately fell onto the couch. A firefighter was standing in the doorway of the residence. The man’s wife was in the house gathering some items so she could leave for the night.

The man then got up from the couch and walked toward the firefighter. He pushed the firefighter with two hands, slamming him against the front door, the arrest report states. The deputy ran toward the man, and put his arm around his chest from behind. He grabbed the man’s left arm, and the deputy stated he could feel him tense his muscles and start to pull away. He then tackled the man to the ground, and the man landed on top of the deputy.

The deputy was finally able to get out from beneath him with the help of firefighters on scene, and attempted to place him in handcuffs, but the man continued to pull his hands away. Finally, he was handcuffed and given a preliminary breath test, which resulted in a .29.

The deputy transported him to the hospital for a medical clearance due to his high intoxication level. On the way there, the man continued to threaten the deputy, including saying he was going to stomp the deputy’s jaw and when they got to the hospital, he was going to “throw hands.”

He then informed the deputy the sheriff and a U.S. Senator were his cousins and that he was going to have the deputy’s job for arresting him. The man told deputies he had drank Hennesy, gin, Jack Daniels, did some cocaine, and drank codeine. Bail: $2,989.

Upon arrival, deputies made contact with the woman who was standing outside the van in question. She said the van belonged to her boyfriend, who was not on scene. A warrants check showed the woman had an active warrant outside of Carson City for contempt of court for previously failing to appear.

She had a .320 percent blood alcohol content level, and was transported to the hospital for medical clearance first.

She was later booked without incident. Bail: $500 cash only.

The woman gave her identification over, and Carson dispatch informed the deputy that the woman was on alternative sentencing with a no alcohol clause.

She admitted the drink was hers and she had been drinking prior to the deputy’s arrival. She submitted to a preliminary breath test, resulting in a blood alcohol content of .170 percent. Bail: $500 cash only.

— A 34-year-old Carson City transient man was arrested Sunday afternoon in the 2000 block of E. William Street on a warrant. According to the police report, deputies stopped the man after he and a woman ran across E. William Street without using a cross walk to avoid walking closer to the deputy.

The deputy made contact with them, and the man told the deputy he might have a warrant for his arrest. The deputy checked with dispatch, which confirmed that he did have a warrant for violating his suspended sentence after failing to comply with color code testing.

He was taken into custody and booked without incident. Bail: $3,000 cash only.
