Carson City area agencies join together for Progressive Agriculture Safety Day at Mills Park
Nevada’s first ever Progressive Agriculture Safety Day arrived at Mills Park in Carson City Saturday bringing a variety of safety topics to the entire community.
Several safety departments around Nevada teamed-up for the festivities designed to teach and give children an in depth understanding of wildlife, harmful plants and potential fire hazards in an assortment of engaging activities.
During the jam-packed event children of all ages had hands-on experience with familiar wild animals in the Nevada area, highlighting the lifestyles and diets of bears, bobcats, coyotes, and mountain lions as well as showcasing a wide array of skulls and soft-fur pelts.
On top of that, kids in attendance received goodie bags full of duck calls, bandanas, t-shirts and safety kits courtesy of the Nevada Department of Wildlife.
With the help of Lieutenant Mike Dzyak, boys and girls had the opportunity to fight fire in real life situations during the State Fire Marshall training exercise, using an extinguisher to safely settle the flames in a controlled environment.
Lieutenant Dzyak described the impact of teaching potential safety dangers at such a young age.
“I think it’s really important that the younger you get to children the more they comprehend what they can do,” he said. “These presentations help expose them to real life training for fires and establishing a controlled and safe environment. Any-time you can get safety out there in the community the more it helps.”
