Carson City rancher asks for public’s help after cow was shot and killed
Eagle Valley Livestock, located in eastern Carson City on the old Buzzy’s Ranch property, made a plea on social media after it was discovered one of their cows was shot and killed by an unknown assailant. They say they have continuously heard gun shots in the area, and are now wondering if other animal deaths on the ranch could be at the hands of the same perpetrator.
In addition to Eagle Valley Livestock and Silver Saddle Ranch, the area is also host to a number of neighborhoods both east and west of the ranch, along with multiple recreational public trails.
They ask for the public to call the Carson City Sheriff’s Office with any information, or if anything suspicious is seen or heard around the are.
Their post is as follows:
We’ve been pretty quiet on here, and I’d like to share the reasons
About a week ago one of our mother cows was shot in the back- twice. Unfortunately she was paralyzed from the hip back & we had to end her suffering. It was tragic to loose a momma cow that had a long life ahead of her.
Then last night, rapid gunfire was heard towards the ranch from the trails surrounding the property. Thankfully none of the animals were hit this time. But someone is shooting at the ranch- and they are either intentionally harming the livestock or hunting coyotes recklessly and sending rounds flying in a densely populated area. Either way it’s a terrible situation and we are heartbroken.
We are currently working with Carson City Sheriff as well as Nevada Department of Agriculture @nvagriculture, but we need your help too! If you have noticed any odd activity surrounding the ranch on Carson River Rd, hear gunshots in the valley, or know anything- please reach out to us. We love this community deeply and want to preserve the ranching history of the valley while providing people with high quality protein; but now we need the help of the community to protect our animals from such needless suffering.
Please share this post or tag whomever might be of help so we can reach as many people in the Carson area as possible. Thank you all, & we will keep you updated as this all develops!
Your local ranchers Rachel, Casey, & baby Andy Sipe.
