Virginia City's 52nd Annual Camel Races Commence on the Comstock Sept. 9

The 52nd Annual Virginia City International Camel Races will trudge and trample the Silverland Arena Sept. 9 through 11 in the heart of the fabled Comstock Lode.
Camel jockeys from as far away as sister city Alice Springs, Australia, are expected, along with local lovers of ostrich feathers and dromedary sweat.
Advance reservations are strongly recommended for those wishing to stay the weekend. Online ticket sales or information on overnight accommodations may be accessed via the Silver Line Express link at www.VisitVirginiaCityNV.com. Tickets may also be reserved by calling the Virginia City Convention and Tourism Authority at 1-800-718-7587 or locally at (775) 847-4386.
Daily adult tickets are $12.00 or $8.00 each for children five to 12, seniors 62-plus and active duty military personnel. Children four and under are free. A Family Pack is available for $30.00 which covers daily admission for two adults and two youngsters.
A limited number of VIP packages, which include food and beverages under the VIP tent, may be purchased for $40.00 per day. Reservations are strongly recommended.
Activities commence with a jockey party at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8. Friday is media day with races starting at 1:00 p.m. The Camel Parade and extravaganza begins at 12 noon with racing again commencing at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10. On Sunday, final competition begins at 12 noon.
