Carson City Sheriff: Suspect in custody after alleged after-school gun incident at Pioneer Academy parking lot
Carson City Sheriff's Office is investigating an incident that happened after school Wednesday at Pioneer Academy where a student said a man brandished a gun at him in the lower school parking lot.
An adult male approximately 20 years old was taken into custody in the 700 block of Hot Springs Road, according to Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong. The suspect is not a Pioneer Academy student and there were no injuries.
The incident happened after school had been dismissed for the day, as part of an early release day. The suspect was located within minutes of the incident and detained by sheriff's deputies. He was arrested about 15 minutes after being detained.
"We do not believe the incident is school associated other than it happened after school in the parking lot. It involved an adult and a student, " said Sheriff Furlong. "School had been released early for day, therefore there was no extensive lockdown. Students had already been dismissed."
The school district confirmed the incident happened in a school parking lot after school and that it is working in full cooperation with the Carson City Sheriff's Office.
The name of the suspect wasn't immediately released.
We will update when more information becomes available.
