Nevada Task Force One sends teams to Texas as part of Hurricane Harvey FEMA request
Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval on Monday issued the following statement regarding relief efforts requested from the State of Nevada by FEMA.
“The State of Nevada stands ready and willing to assist in disaster relief as we have during times of crisis including Hurricane Katrina and the Oroville Dam breech. Nevada Task Force One, which includes a four-member and 14-member team, has been requested and deployed in response to Hurricane Harvey.
Representatives of the Nevada Division of Emergency Management will have a discussion today with the Federal Emergency Management Agency regarding additional resources.” - Governor Sandoval
Requests are ongoing and updates will be provided. This weekend, Sandoval extended his sympathies to the victims of the natural disaster and offered his gratitude to all volunteers and first responders providing assistance to those in harm’s way.
How to help:
The Red Cross said they depend on financial donations to help provide immediate relief. It has already set up a way to donate to victims with a text message. Text the word HARVEY to 90999 to make a $10 donation. You can also visit redcross.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS.
The United Way is also using text as a donation: Text UWFLOOD to 41444 to donate to the United Way Flood Relief Fund.
Donations to support The Salvation Army's Hurricane Harvey relief efforts can be made at helpsalvationarmy.org or by calling 1-800-SAL-ARMY.
Locally, all 83 Save Mart Supermarkets in Northern Nevada and California have begun collecting monetary donations for the American Red Cross relief efforts.
Shoppers can donate any amount at the check-out line with 100 percent of the proceeds to be appropriated to where the Red Cross sees the greatest need, according to a Save Mart news release.
The donation will be printed on the receipt so shoppers have a record of their tax deductible donation. Donations will be accepted through Sept. 4.
