Two escape serious injury in helicopter crash Thursday near Gardnerville
Two sustained minor injuries in a helicopter crash Thursday afternoon south of Gardnerville, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies were notified at 4:15 p.m. that a helicopter had crash landed near the Horsebend area and that the occupants had already arrived at the hospital, said Sgt. Pat Brooks.
The pilot, Doyle Holden, advised he and a friend, Karen Cole had used the helicopter to fly in the Horsebend area to fish the Carson River. After fishing, they lifted off of the ground and experienced a malfunction in which the helicopter crashed landed, said Brooks. Holden and Cole suffered minor injuries, and contacted another pilot who flew in and transported them out of the area.
The National Safety and Transportation Board was notified and they are investigating the incident.
