Come ride with us Carson City
As Carson City becomes more bike-friendly, it is important that residents and visitors are able to safely navigate around our community by bike. While having bike lanes and paths is one part of creating a bike-friendly community, it’s also important for people on bicycles to understand how to ride safely.
Carson City Public Works and Nevada Department of Transportation are excited to partner to offer a Traffic Skills 101 course. This free course is designed to help people who are interested in learning to ride on streets and roads, cultivate the knowledge and skills they need to get around safely on our city’s streets.
Developed by the League of American Bicyclists, the class offers basic, intermediate, and advanced building blocks to meet the needs of all riders, from beginners to experienced cyclists. Students will learn about choosing a bicycle, basic parts of a bike, essential equipment, as well as how to safely and comfortably ride your bike in various traffic conditions, terrain, and climates.
The class will take place at the Carson City Community Center, Bonanza room, on Saturday, Sept. 9 from 9 am to 3 pm.
This fun and exciting course will include both classroom learning as well as an on-street bike portion to practice skills. Participants may bring their own bike in good working condition, or a bike will be provided. Helmets are required for all participants. Those who do not already have a helmet will be given one. All participants must be over 18 years of age.
Those who are taking the class should come dressed in clothing that they will be comfortable in while riding a bicycle, and should bring water. There is no cost to take the class, but attendees must pre-register by emailing Albert Jacquez at ajacquez@dot.state.nv.gov. Registration will be limited to 15 participants.
