What Works: Eclipse = Unity and Renewal
Did you feel that? It wasn’t just the temperature drop or the way everything looked muted outside. Something happened today. It happened without a national disaster or a major annual sporting event. It was a time of national unity. It was a time where we dropped the politics, the fear, and even the concerns of our daily lives. We stood together in the present moment.
The last one we experienced was in 1979. Eclipses are rare and bring people out of their homes and businesses, eye protection in hand, to witness nature crossing over itself. But this one, titled “The Great American Eclipse” was on a path through America. This was our opportunity for unity. CNN put together a great gallery of people watching eclipses over time.
For many, an eclipse is also a time to clear out old beliefs and thought patterns. It’s a time to let go of the thoughts and behaviors that don’t serve. What can you let go of today? For me, it’s trying to tell the future. I’m letting go of expectations of outcome.
Often, I can try to protect myself by running a risk analysis on everything. It’s like that movie “Along Came Polly.”
There’s so much in life which is out of our control. Yet, trying to play the odds can eclipse experience – cover it right up. Things shift into a weird hue and everything is colored by past experience. What if we could use this analogy to come into the here and now with our lives? What could that mean for our experience?
This can be applied to anything — business, dating, parenting. It can impact anything where coming together with yourself, taking a deep breath, and making a conscious choice to take a different path can make a difference. The courage comes when the decision is made to take action and try something new. After all, if you do what you have always done, you will get what you’ve always gotten. I am so interested to hear everyone’s eclipse stories. What does the eclipse mean to you? Post below or share this article to get the conversation started.
