Southwest Gas proposes $2.27 a month rate hike for Northern Nevada customers
Southwest Gas has proposed a rate hike amounting to an average increase of $2.27 per month for Northern Nevada residential customers. A consumer session will be held Tuesday, Aug. 27, to hear public comment regarding the annual rate adjustment application by the utility.
Southwest Gas proposes to increase the average Northern Nevada single-family residential customer monthly bill by $2.27. Meanwhile, the utility proposes a monthly decrease average of 69 cents for Southern Nevada single-family residential customers.
The Public Utilities Commission of Nevada has scheduled the consumer session. The PUCN may approve rates as proposed, or decrease or increase rates as necessary to ensure rates are just and reasonable.
Nevada law requires natural gas utilities to file annual rate adjustment applications to review the reasonableness and prudence of gas procurement practices and other costs for the past year. In addition to this review, this application adjusts the tracking rates for variable interest expense and unrecovered gas cost expense.
Also adjusted are program rates for energy efficiency, conservation and renewable energy and general revenue adjustment rates. Rates that affect transportation customers (industrial and large commercial customers) are also adjusted.
The annual rate adjustment application is separate from applications that adjust the general rates primarily related to facility infrastructure and the quarterly gas cost filings that pass-through the recorded costs of natural gas.
The consumer session is scheduled for:
Tuesday, Aug. 27, at 6 p.m. Hearing Room A
Public Utilities Commission of Nevada 1150 E. William Street Carson City and via videoconference to:
Hearing Room A, Public Utilities Commission of Nevada 9075 West Diablo Drive, Suite 250 Las Vegas.
Public comment is limited to the contents of the application and speakers may be limited to 5 minutes. In addition to PUCN staff, representatives of the Nevada Attorney General’s Bureau of Consumer Protection and Southwest Gas will be present at the consumer session. For information about the consumer session, contact the PUCN at (775) 684-6101 or (702) 486-7210.
