Carson City Sheriff's Office arrests: Roommate eviction leads to fight, stabbing

A 53-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Saturday morning after allegedly stabbing his roommate during a fight at a Dori Way residence, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Donald Scherer was booked on felony suspicion of domestic battery with a deadly weapon resulting in substantial bodily harm. According to the arrest report, deputies arrived at a home in the 2100 block of Dori Way for a report of a stabbing. A witness said the victim had been living with Scherer as roommates.

The witness told investigating deputies that the victim gave the roommate his two week notice to move out. An argument ensued and the two started to exchange punches. The witness saw the suspect pull out a knife but did not see the stabbing occur, the arrest report states.

The witness called 911 and went back to the residence and saw the victim collapsed in the driveway. A deputy placed the suspect in custody at 2:06 a.m. He admitted to stabbing the victim and said they got into a fight.

The victim suffered a deep stab wound to his left thigh, a stab wound to his left back rib and a laceration to his hand, the arrest report states. Bail: $30,000.

In other arrests:
— A 36-year-old man, Alfredo Lopez-Palma, was arrested Friday, 6:49 p.m. in the area of Spooner Junction on felony suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of documents from a stolen vehicle, a misdemeanor warrant for DUI, driving without a valid license and no proof of insurance.

According to the arrest report, a deputy conducted a traffic stop on a separate vehicle near the park and ride off of Highway 50 at Spooner Junction. While the deputy was doing the records check a man exited a green 1998 Honda sedan with California plates. The man appeared to be very nervous and kept making and breaking eye contact and walking back and forth from the vehicle to the officer. The deputy did a check on the license plate, which revealed the vehicle was reported as stolen through the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

The man was taken into custody. During a search the officer recovered the vehicle’s title and VIN inspection in the man’s wallet. The vehicle ignition was heavily damaged and appeared to have been started without a key. The registered owner was contacted and the suspect was taken to jail. Bail: $16,429.

— A 46-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Friday, 6:03 p.m. in the 500 block of Jeannell Drive on suspicion of DUI second offense. According to the arrest report, deputies were called to the area for a report of an intoxicated driver. The witness said the woman struggled for several minutes to unlock her vehicle, she opened it and attempted to drive the vehicle away from the curb.

The witness said she drove side to side down the roadway and made a large u-turn and proceeded east, and then parked in an apartment complex. The witness said she saw the woman’s feet hanging out of the vehicle and called police.

Deputies made contact with the woman and asked her if she had been drinking. The woman replied “yes, I have been drinking all day but I was not driving.” The officer stated the witness saw her driving and asked if she would perform field sobriety tests. The woman said she had injuries. Due to the injuries the officer did not ask her to perform the tests but she did show multiple clues of impairment and was arrested. Bail: $2,637.

— A 48-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday, 8:32 p.m. in the 500 block of Stewart Street on suspicion of provoking assault. According to the arrest report, deputies were called to the area in reference to a male subject challenging another male to a fight. Deputies made contact with the men and learned the man suspect was provoking the fight and there was a witness to it. The victim signed a citizens arrest complaint and the man, who gave a preliminary breath test of .200, was taken into custody. Bail: $637.

— Two women, ages 29 and 34, both of Carson City woman were arrested Friday, 10:38 p.m. in the 3000 block of North Roop Street on suspicion of disorderly conduct.

According to the arrest report, a deputy was driving north on Roop near the intersection of Hot Springs Road when he observed two women fighting with each other in the parking lot of a convenience store.

The officer pulled into the parking lot and observed the two pulling each other’s hair and punching each other in the face with closed fists. The officer gave several commands for the women to stop. The women refused after a few attempts and the officer was able to physically separate them. Bail: $242 each.

— A 32-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday, 7:08 p.m. in the area of Brown and Highway 50 on suspicion of state probation violation and gross misdemeanor possession of a dangerous drug without a proof of prescription.

According to the arrest report, the man was stopped on a traffic violation. He told the officer he was on his way to a counseling meeting, that he was on state probation and today was his last counseling meeting. The officer asked if he had in drugs on him or the vehicle.

The man said he didn’t told the officer to go ahead and search the vehicle. The officer found two pills, 50mg each of Tramadol. The man said they were prescribed to him after an accident. The man was unable to provide proof of a doctor’s prescription. Bail: $2,500.

— A man and woman were arrested Thursday, 1:50 p.m. in the 3100 block of Desatoya Drive on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Arrested were Megan Nicole Woods and Angel Alcala Tovar. Woods was also booked on misdemeanor suspicion of violation of a probation warrant, failure to appear in Carson City and Sparks courts. Bail for Woods: $7,642. Bail for Tovar: $3,637.

UPDATE 4:50PM: The fire at the landfill has been extinguished, according to Carson City Fire Department Battalion Chief Jon Pedrini.
The fire was around 100 foot by 40 foot and knocked down by firefighters and work crews at the scene. There were no threats to structures or wildland.
