A new pathway: Jump Start program gives high school students college experience
A total of 89 juniors and seniors at Carson High School have enrolled for their first or second year in the Jump Start program at Western Nevada College.
According to the WNC web site (wnc.edu), the Jump Start program is a dual-enrollment opportunity for students in high school. Earning college and high school credit simultaneously by enrolling in college level courses at WNC, completing up to 60 college credits with full participation.
“The great thing about the program is it will help students prepare for college academically,” said CHS Principal Tasha Fuson. “With these college courses, they have the chance to get the first two years of college finished before they graduate high school.”
The Jump Start program can be the best of both worlds for students: Taking college level classes while having the same support and resources that the high school has to offer, and making the transition between the two more comfortable.
As a result, Fuson also expects tremendous growth in the Jump Start program.
“My estimation is at least 100 students will take advantage of some sort of aspect that WNC has to offer for years to come,” she said. “I am fully on-board if students are interested in joining.”
