Health and Human Services names Leon Ravin new Nevada psychiatric medical director
Dr. Leon Ravin is Nevada's new statewide psychiatric medical director, the Department of Health and Human Services announced Wednesday.
Ravin has an active history in Nevada medical practice and education serving as the acting statewide psychiatric medical director in Nevada, and previously served as an associate medical director.
Since 2006, he has worked in clinical and administrative roles at Southern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services, including taking an active role in testifying on mental health laws and community standards before the Nevada Legislature.
Dr. Ravin has been the director of graduate and postgraduate medical education for the state Division of Public and Behavioral Health since 2012 while also teaching as a clinical professor for the University of Nevada School of Medicine.
He is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and is certified in forensic psychiatry. He is also a past president of the Southern Nevada Chapter of the Nevada Psychiatric Association. A native of the city of Minsk in Eastern Europe, Ravin was a medical doctor in his home country and received psychiatry training at the Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center beginning in 2001.
As a doctor caring for patients, Ravin’s activities extend beyond the halls of government and academia. He was the lead psychiatrist on a rapid response team for disaster and terrorism response, and he has consulted with homeless shelter clients referring them for treatment, according to a Department of Health and Human Services news release.
