Friday deadline for Carson City Sheriff's Office Citizens Academy
The deadline to sign up for a community policing citizens academy offered through the Carson City Sheriff’s Office is this Friday, August 11, 5 p.m.
The Volunteers in Police Service Program, will run weekly beginning Wednesday, August 16 to October. Sheriff Ken Furlong is opening the doors of the Carson City Sheriff’s Office for 11 consecutive Wednesday nights for a Citizens Academy, enabling residents to have a better understanding the Carson City Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Furlong is committed to having a strong partnership with the citizens of Carson City and the community at large. This important partnership between the sheriff’s office and the citizens of Carson City will make our community a safer and better place to live
Each academy session will start with a question and answer period by Sheriff Furlong. Each department of the sheriff’s office will be teaching a session. We will have speakers from Patrol, Crime Lab, Dispatch, Evidence, Investigation, Special Enforcement Team, Gang Unit, DUI/ Traffic, Domestic Violence, Sheriff’s Office K-9s, NHP troopers and a SWAT demonstration.
Classes will be held August 16 to Oct. 25 on Wednesday evenings from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Ormsby Room at the Sheriff’s Office, 911 East Musser Street. The SWAT demo will be at Fire Station 52 on College Parkway.
