Fundraisers continue for Carson City children injured in crash; Wednesday at Firehouse Subs
A fundraiser will be held Wednesday at Firehouse Subs in Carson City, and so far, nearly $23,000 has been raised overall for the family of Anthony Francone and Kristyn Smithwick of Carson City, whose children were injured in a fatal July 29 Oregon crash that took the life of the children's stepsister, 17-year-old Gabbi Smithwick.
Gabbi was born in Reno to Joanna Paetz and Brian Smithwick, and grew up in Carson City. She attended Jack’s Valley Elementary School before moving to Oregon.
Gabbi’s obituary as well as the information about her funeral service can be found here.
Anthony Francone, a Storey County sheriff's deputy, has been giving updates about Kaitlyn and Jonathan on Facebook, and apparently Kaitlyn is coming home after her successful surgery.
She was released from the ICU earlier this week, and her family is preparing to bring her home so she can be ready for the start of school.
Jonathan is doing better, but still has multiple surgeries to undergo. However, Francone said he has “turned a corner” and is no longer in a life or death situation.
To donate to the family in order to help with medical bills as well as transportation to and from Portland, please visit their go fund me page.
The fundraiser will be held Wednesday, Aug. 8 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Firehouse Subs, 3120 U.S. Highway 50 East in Carson City.
The Firehouse Subs restaurant will donate 20 percent of all proceeds during the fundraiser to help with the needs of the Smithwick-Francone families.
