Carson City jams with Big Red, Leapin' Lizards at Brewery Arts Center
America's favorite redhead and her band brought their distinctive brand of Rockabilly classic rock-n-roll and swing music to the Minnesota Street Stage Saturday night at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City.
No, not Annie, but close enough.
Aileen Quinn, who heads the band "Aileen Quinn and the Leapin' Lizards," starred in the 1982 feature film "Annie," her title-role performance in which earned her a Golden Globe Award for portraying the popular Depression-era radio and comic book character.
Quinn and the Leapin' Lizards headlined Saturday night's weekly Levitt AMP Carson City Summer Concert Series with sound that took the crowd of concert-goers back to the 1950s and 60s.
Carolyn Dolan and Big Red opened the Saturday night free summer concert series, which concludes its 2018 season on Aug. 25 with La Chamba. There are four Saturday evening concerts remaining on the schedule.
Sponsored in part by the Mortimer and Mimi Levitt Foundation, a private family foundation that empowers communities to transform neglected public spaces into thriving destinations through the power of free, live music, the Levitt AMP Carson City Music Series features 10 free, family-friendly concerts to the public at the Minnesota Street Stage right in the heart of the historic district in Downtown Carson City.
The Brewery Arts Center is in the middle of its third incredible season of free, summer music through a National Award from the Mortimer and Mimi Levitt Foundation presented by The Change Companies. Grab your family, friends and neighbors and get ready to head on down to Carson City for barrier free activities.
The public is invited to bring their own picnics, blankets and lawn chairs to the concerts, which will have an open lawn and lot setting. Food trucks, libations and kids activities will be available at each of the shows. The Levitt AMP concert series is located at 449 West King Street at the corner of King and Minnesota. Admission is free. Shows start at 7 p.m.
