Carson City sheriff’s arrest log: Man jailed after fighting with bar patrons

A 28-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Sunday for misdemeanor suspicion of obstructing and resisting arrest after fighting with people at a bar in which he accused one patron of being an ISIS terrorist and then burning the military identification card of another patron with told the man to stop, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched to a bar in the 100 block of Telegraph Street at 4:41 a.m. in reference to a man starting fights with multiple people.

Dispatched advised one of the security guards was holding a male subject back from fighting three male subjects. Prior to arrival dispatch advised the aggressor left on foot, northbound toward a casino. Dispatch described the aggressor as a white male wearing a black shirt and light colored shorts.

Upon arrival a deputy spoke with a casino employee who stated the man have gotten into a taxi. The officer went back to the bar and made contact with a male subject who stated he was the victim in the fight. He stated a man was inside the bar calling someone ISIS for having brown skin.

The victim told officers he walked up to the man and showed him his military identification card and asked him to stop. The victim stated the subject smacked his hand and took his military identification and began burning it, the arrest report states.

While speaking with the victim, dispatch broadcast a call for service involving a subject possibly with a gun at a motel in the 900 block of North Carson Street. Dispatch advised they could hear a male subject yelling in the background. An officer confirmed with the victim from the bar that he did not wish to pursue charged. The deputy responded to the motel.

A deputy broadcast over police radio that there were two men in the area of Sophia and Plaza streets. The arresting deputy responded to that area where other officers had two subjects at gunpoint. A deputy began instructing one of the men, who was the suspect from the fight at the bar, to get on the ground. The man refused orders from a deputy on scene as well as orders from other officers.

An officer held the man at gunpoint while a deputy approached the man and escorted him to the ground. The man held his left arm underneath his body and refused to comply with orders to give officers his arms. He stated multiple times “No I am waiting on the deputy to the left.” The officer ordered the man to give up his arms multiple times again which he continued to refuse. Officer were able to get his hands into cuffs and he was taken to jail at 5:39 a.m. for booking. Bail: $412.

In other arrests:
— A 49-year-old woman was arrested Sunday, 3:04 a.m. in the area of Roop and William Street on a misdemeanor violation of a probation conditions. The woman was on Alternative Sentencing with a clause not to drink or do drugs and a search and seizure clause. The woman advised she drank a beer earlier. Inside the backseat of a vehicle an officer found an open fireball whiskey bottle, a vodka bottle and a open Sparks Malt Liquor can and a closed Bud Light can. She was arrested for violation of conditions. Bail: $3,000.

— A 24-year-old Carson City man, Joshua Curtis Chandler, was arrested Saturday, 9:43 p.m. in the 500 block of East William Street on suspicion of preventing a witness from reporting a crime, a felony, and misdemeanor domestic battery. Bail: $8,137.

— A 53-year-old Carson City woman, Tammmy Lynn Sorensen, was arrested Saturday, 10:08 p.m. in the 1200 block of Woodside Drive on suspicion of possession of heroin, methamphetamine and a dangerous drug without a prescription.

According to the arrest report, she approached an officer in the 1200 block of Woodside Drive. The officer had known the woman based on multiple contacts with her.

As they were talking she was swinging a black purse around. When the officer did a radio check through dispatch the woman quickly walked toward a balcony and yelled for her sister to come out.

She then attempted to throw her purse on the upstairs balcony but failed and hit the side of the building. She then ran and threw the purse up onto the balcony. Because of the woman’s history with drugs, the officer detained her. When asked why she was throwing the purse, the woman said: “What purse? That’s not my purse.” Inside the purse officers found a white baby sock that contained a small amount of methamphetamine and a small ball of heroin and a Hydrochloride tablet. Bail: $7,500.

— A 19-year-old Carson City man Reagan Foster, was arrested Saturday, 6:27 p.m. in the area of Marian Avenue and Long Street on two counts felony suspicion of a controlled substance. Officers located two suspected Ecstasy pills in a backpack after a K-9 alerted positive for drugs inside a vehicle. A male with Foster was cited for marijuana possession after marijuana was found in the vehicle. The backpack with the pills belonged to Foster. Bail: $5,000.

— A 41-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 10:07 a.m. in the 700 block of Fairview Drive for two misdemeanor failure to appear warrants, driving without proof of insurance, driving on a suspended driver’s license and suspended registration. $4,036.

— A 34-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Saturday, 2:27 p.m. in the area of Highway 50 East and Sherman Lane on misdemeanor warrants for contempt of court. Bail: $6,000.

On Saturday, April 20, Carson City Community Gardeners and the UNR Extension Master Gardeners came together to get the Community Garden ready for the growing season. For two hours they removed weeds, spread mulch and prepped their garden beds for the season.

In collaboration with Chartwells, the Carson City School District foodservice partner, Culinary Arts students from Ms. Tammy Borreman’s class at Carson Middle School competed in a “Discovery Kitchen Cook Off.” Similar to a mini version of the Food Network’s Iron Chef, the timed cooking competition featured teams of three students who prepared succulent dishes for a judging panel.
