BEAR Logic Month: When to contact Nevada Division of Wildlife with bear issues
July is BEAR Logic Month, a time to teach residents and visitors how to live and recreate in bear county. When a bear in its own habitat is exhibiting normal bear behavior, it’s unlikely to be a cause for concern. NDOW cautions people to never to approach or attempt an interaction with a bear. Of course the best option is to never have a bear encounter in the first place.
NDOW recognizes that bears rummaging through garbage or eating apples in backyards may constitute a nuisance and possibly frighten people, however, it is your responsibility while living or recreating in bear habitat to remove these attractants before further steps are taken by NDOW.
Remember, persistent or extremely bold bears pose a public safety risk. Contact NDOW if a bear:
— Enters your home
— Causes damage to property or vehicles
— Seems unafraid of or approaches humans
— Contact NDOW at 775-688-BEAR.
