NHP: Motorists should avoid using Highway 50 over Spooner
Due to the Clear Creek fire in Carson City, first responders have been called back out to the scene to monitor the path and speed of the fire and to prepare for any road closures that may happen. Nevada Department of Public Safety is currently on scene to prepare to close specific roads if the fire is not contained as to keep the public safe.
At this time there are no road closures but Nevada Highway Patrol crews along with fire personnel are asking motorist to try and avoid traveling on Highway 50 from Highway 395 to State Route 28 near Spooner Summit. If motorists are unable to avoid this area crews are asking that travelers use extra caution. Please slow down and watch out for any and all emergency personnel and their equipment and other motorists on the highway.
Please do not stop on or near the highway to observe the fire or to take pictures or video. Since last night fire personnel have been conducting voluntary evacuations from Jacks Valley and Old Clear Creek.
