Carson City sheriff's log: Deputies make DUI and disorderly conduct arrests Monday

Two men were arrested on DUI related charges on Monday, with one of the suspects also facing drug charges after prescription pills were recovered during a vehicle inventory, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Taken into custody was Paul Martinez, 22, of Reno. According to the arrest report, officers were dispatched to the area of North Carson Street and Arrowhead Drive in reference to a possible DUI driver. The officer spoke with a witness who said they followed a tan Hyundai through Washoe Valley into Carson City and that the vehicle had been swerving and nearly hit a tractor-trailer, a semi-truck and cement barriers on Lakeview Boulevard.

The witness followed the vehicle where it turned into a Taco Bell parking lot. The witness parked and watched the vehicle while waiting for officers. A deputy spotted the vehicle and approached it, seeing an empty 16-ounce Mike's Hard Lemonade can on the ground. The officer made contact with the driver who identified himself with his Nevada driver’s license.

He had red watery eyes and admitted to consuming a single 16-ounce Mike’s Hard Lemonade earlier in the morning, the arrest report states. He said he took his prescription Lorazepam the night before. He voluntarily submitted to a series of field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment, with the preliminary breath test of .191. He was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI.

During the inventory of the man’s vehicle officers located five unopened 16-ounce Mike’s Hard Lemonade cans in the back seat and six empty bottles of UV Blue vodka in the center console. Also located were two bubble packs for valium that contained 15 blue valium pills. There was no prescription attached to the packs. Also found was a prescription bottle for Lorazepam with the man’s name. Inside the bottle were three different kinds of pills, an Alprazolam, 9 Lorazepam and 37 Alprazolam. The man submitted to a voluntary blood draw. Bail: $3,637.

In the other DUI arrest, a 49-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday, 6:03 p.m. in the area of North Fall and East Robinson streets.

According to the arrest report, deputies were advised of a DUI driver in a white Jeep. A deputy located the vehicle and made a traffic stop. The officer could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from the man. He was asked for his license, registration and vehicle insurance.

The suspect was only able to produce his license. He was asked to submit to field sobriety tests. The man said he would not do the tests. He submitted to a preliminary breath test with a result of .343, the arrest report states. He was booked on a misdemeanor DUI charge and signed a form to allow for a blood draw. He also faces misdemeanor charges of driving with expired registration and no proof of insurance. Bail: $2,611.

— A 34-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday, 10:20 a.m. in the 500 block of North Carson Street on misdemeanor suspicion of disorderly conduct after attempting to use a $1 bill to buy sunglasses, then claiming the bill was a $100 bill and then yelling at clerk and customers, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

According to the arrest report, officers were dispatched to a gas station for an unwanted person in the parking lot hitting customer cars. Officers made contact with gas station owner who advised the man had left southbound on Carson Street. Deputies caught up with the suspect and asked him what he was doing. The man said he was trying to buy sunglasses and was asked to leave the store.

Officers contacted the gas station and spoke with the clerk. He said the man selected a pair of sunglasses from the display and attempted to pay for them with a dollar bill. When the clerk told him he needed additional money, the suspect began to argue, saying he had given the clerk a $10 bill. When the clerk told the suspect he did not, he walked out of the store with the glasses. At this time, the owner of the gas station stopped and retrieved the glasses. That’s when the suspect began yelling that he had given the clerk a $100 bill, the arrest report states.

The suspect was asked to leave the property at which time he ran toward customers at the gas pump. The man began yelling profanities at customers and started hitting their vehicles with his hand. No damage was reported on the vehicles, the arrest report states.
While he was being taken to jail he was talking about killing the devil the night before and saying things that didn’t make sense, the arrest report states. Bail: $242.

— A 22-year-old Dayton woman was booked into Carson City Jail Monday, 7:20 p.m. on a misdemeanor warrant, failure to appear, issued April 29, 2015 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $215.
