Campfire Program at Washoe Lake State Park this Wednesday
They look menacing and are usually seen walking around late at night on the desert floor. Learn all about scorpions during this week's campfire talk on Wednesday. Park Rangers will discuss types of scorpions in Nevada, how their venom works on victims and why they glow under a black light.
Then, walk out in the dunes with provided black lights and see if you can’t find some. Bring a flashlight (and a black light if you have one) and good walking shoes. Sandals are not recommended because, after all, they are scorpions.
WHEN: Wednesday, July 15, at 8:30 p.m. Bring a lawn chair.
WHERE: Washoe Lake State Park, 4855 Eastlake Blvd. Take Exit 44 from I-580, drive north on
Eastlake Blvd, 4 miles, and the park’s entrance is on the left. This event is held in Loop A,
Campsite 14.
COST: This event is free after the park’s entrance fee of $7/vehicle. Nevada residents receive a
$2 discount. Cash or checks are accepted.

The passport challenge continues: The Nevada State Parks Passport Booklet is now available and may be picked up at any state park. Visitors who have their booklets stamped at 15 different parks will earn a free annual pass to all Nevada State Parks.
The booklet, which serves as a travel aid as well as travelogue for park visitors, includes photos, a description of each park, lists of amenities, travel journal pages and spaces for validation stamps which have been designed to reflect each unique state park.
