GreenUP! promotes Plastic Free July at local Carson City, Reno restaurants

GreenUP!, an environmental education non-profit working with local businesses, and Green Dining Nevada, a community effort to reduce food waste and increase sustainability practices in the local food industry invite Nevada residents to join the Plastic Free July Movement.

Green Dining Nevada, originally known as Green Dining District, is grounded on sustainable dining commitments that provide practical strategies for avoiding plastic during the awareness month for Single-Use Plastic Pollution Prevention.

These strategies include the 'Skip the Stuff' campaign, a commitment to skipping single-use utensils, digitalizing receipts, and offering reusable alternatives. This commitment is partaken by Green Dining Nevada restaurant members and consumers who take the pledge to consciously and responsibly dine out.

To promote a culture of reusable dishware and encourage restaurants and consumers to realize the benefits of 'Choosing to Reuse,' Green Dining Nevada offers an app-powered reusable takeout container program 'Green Box To-Go'. The containers can be borrowed in 17 locations in Carson City, Reno/Sparks, and most recently Las Vegas. Once used, consumers can drop the green boxes off at any participating location to be sanitized and placed back into circulation.

greenUP! is partnering with Reno and Carson City restaurant members to host tabling events where customers can learn more about Plastic Free July and sign up for 'Green Box To-Go' to receive a $5 reward to be used at participating restaurants. The Green Dining Nevada team will be stationed for a few hours talking to community members about tips to join the Plastic Free July challenge and offering a $5 discount valid in any of the stores listed below to all visitors who download the app and create an account during the event.

The Plastic Free July tabling schedule is available below and on greenUP! and Green Dining Nevada's social media and is taking place from July 13th to July 31st. Carson City Restaurants will be participating in the Plastic Free July events while the greenUP! Green Dining Banner is up, from July 29th -August 4th.
