Farad Fire closes Interstate 80 near Verdi
UPDATE 4:05PM: Interstate 80 reopened Tuesday afternoon. One lane is open for westbound traffic. California Highway Patrol will provide escorts for traffic from Highway 267. The fire has burned 670 acres and was reported to be 20 percent contained.

The Farad Fire burning near the California and Nevada state line has again forced closure of a portion of Interstate 80 near Verdi as of Tuesday morning.
The Interstate 80 corridor is currently closed westbound at Gold Ranch exit in Verdi and eastbound at exit 188B/Highway 267 interchange near Truckee, according to Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch.
The fire started Monday and has as of 10 a.m. Tuesday is 600 acres in size and 5 percent contained. Seven structures are immediately threatened in the area. Evacuations are not planned at this time, according to Sierra Front.
At this time it is unknown how long I-80 will be closed. It is suggested that travelers take an alternate route for travel between Truckee and Reno.
Air quality between Reno and Carson City is in the moderate range, according to airnow.gov.
