Carson City arrests: Jail escapee served felony, misdemeanor warrants out of Churchill County

A Carson City man who is currently in jail for felony jail escape charges, was booked Wednesday and Thursday for felony and misdemeanor warrants issued out of Churchill County.

Matthew Raymond Marizza was served Wednesday with outstanding felony and misdemeanor warrants issued July 1 out of Churchill County. Bail for the felony warrant, $95,000 and $500 for the misdemeanor petit larceny warrant.

According to Carson City Jail, both of the warrants are bondable. The felony warrant includes 13 counts of suspected property crimes, including burglary of a business and attempt to commit fraud with a debit or credit card. Another $10,000 warrant was issued June 29 out of Churchill County and served Thursday for alleged multiple property crimes.

In Carson City, Marizza, 27, faces multiple charges including escape, grand larceny, conspiracy to commit grand larceny, attempted grand larceny of a motor vehicle and contempt of court, following a June 26 jail escape along with inmate Cody J. Abernathy. Both men were eventually taken into custody, as well as suspected accomplice, Austin Rivers.

In other arrests:
— A 21-year-old Carson City woman was booked early Wednesday for suspicion of tampering with a vehicle, a gross misdemeanor, and suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery and hit and run.

According to the arrest report, deputies responded at 4:37 a.m. to an incident on Edmonds Drive. Deputies learned the suspect was in a dating relationship with the male victim. The suspect allegedly hit the victim, grabbed a rock and used it to hit a Toyota 4-door sedan he was in, and then got into her vehicle and where she allegedly drove forward, colliding into the Toyota before reversing and speeding away from the scene.

Deputies met with the suspect who admitted to striking the man, and striking the vehicle with a rock and then hitting the vehicle with her own vehicle. She was taken into custody. Bail: $4,911.

— A 23-year-old Carson City man was arrested July 7 for a misdemeanor failure to appear warrant issued out of Dayton Township Justice Court. He was also booked for suspicion of driving on a suspended driver's license. Bail: $2,052.

— A 40-year-old man was arrested July 7 for a misdemeanor violation of a temporary protection warrant, issued July 6 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $3,000.

— A 53-year-old Carson City man was arrested July 6 for suspicion of a second DUI, driving on a suspended or revoked license and driving with expired plates.

According to the booking report, a deputy was sent to the area of Damon Drive at around 5:12 p.m. for a suspected DUI driver. The officer located the vehicle driving on East Fifth and Saliman Road. The officer followed the vehicle and watched the driver go over the fog line to the right, and then took a wide turn north onto Carson Meadows Drive. The officer watched as the vehicle drifted to the right side of the road, nearly striking several parked vehicle.

The officer made a traffic stop, and spoke with the driver, who stumbled out of his vehicle. The driver had red, watery eyes and slow, thick speech, the report states. The officer asked the man if he would complete standardized field sobriety tests. The man said he would not. He did agree to a preliminary breath test with a result of .369 on a partial blow. He was arrested.

The man stated he was drunk and there would be alcohol in his system. He would not agree to a blood or breath evidentiary test, the report states. A search warrant was applied for and granted by a Carson City judge for a blood draw. The man was booked into custody. Bail: $3,209.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called Thursday afternoon to a vehicle accident involving a 10-year-old pedestrian near the intersection of Silver Sage and Colorado streets.
