It's Your City: Carson City fire chief talks about summer wildfire threats
In this edition of It's Your City, host Cortney Bloomer sits down with Carson City Fire Department Chief Sean Slamon to talk about fire danger this summer.
Fire restrictions went into effect Wednesday, July 4 in Carson City as vegetation in western Nevada has dried out significantly creating a large crop of grass and brush that is evident at lower elevations and trees and other forest vegetation at higher elevations. The potential for another devastating fire during the summer is very real. Report fires to the Carson City Dispatch Center by calling 911.
In the interview with Cortney, Fire Chief Slamon fire protection measures, and discuss ways homeowners should create clearance areas around their homes and property. They also talk about creating plans in the event of evacuations. See the video below or go here.
Fire Chief Slamon also discusses Carson City's CodeRED alert warning system, an ultra high-speed telephone communication service for emergency notifications. This system allows city emergency management to telephone all or targeted areas of the City in case of an emergency situation that requires immediate action, such as a boil-water notice, missing child or evacuation notices.
