Body of woman found in Gardnerville field, cause of death under investigation

The body of a woman was found Wednesday in a field in the Gardnerville Ranchos area, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

The dead woman's body was discovered at around noon, with deputies responding to a field off of Dresslerville Road between Muir and Riverview, said DCSO Undersheriff Paul Howell.

The body is that of a female believed to be 58 years of age. The initial scene investigation indicates the body has been where it was located anywhere from 7 to 10 days. Tentative identification has been made, and investigators will be contacting possible family and friends, said Howell.

The investigation remains active and no further information can be released at this time.
