Carson City sheriff's arrest log: Woman jailed on suspicion of felony elder abuse

A 29-year-old Carson City woman was jailed Monday on felony charges of elder abuse and preventing a victim from calling 911 after allegedly breaking into the home of her 67-year-old mother and twisting her arms and hands when she attempted to call for help, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Amanda Urnberg also faces misdemeanor charges including two counts violation of probation terms and domestic battery. She’s being held on $34,137 bail. According to the arrest report, officers were called to a home in the 3700 block of Meadow Wood Road in reference to a domestic dispute.

Officers arrived and met with the suspect, Urnberg, outside the residence. She told a deputy she had recently got out of jail and returned home. She said her mother did not want her in the residence. She stated the two had an argument and that it was verbal only.

Officers then spoke with the victim who stated Urnberg was not supposed to be in the house. She said she did not want to open the door for her daughter because in the past she had become physically violent with her and damaged property inside the home.

The victim told the officer she began to call 911 when Urnberg took the phone away from her before she could speak with dispatch. The victim said she screamed for help when Urnberg told dispatch there wasn’t an emergency. The victim stated she then used a cell phone to call 911. When Urnberg saw her on the cell phone, she allegedly twisted her mother’s hands and arms, causing the phone to separate.

Officers observed damage to the doors from the driveway to the garage and the garage to the kitchen. The door from the driveway to the garage had damage to the door latch. The door from the garage to the kitchen had a split door frame and a missing striker plate, the arrest report states. A deputy a took photos of the scene.

Deputies observed minor bruises on the victim’s forearms that were consistent with her statement that Urnberg twisted her arms. The officer asked the woman where the bruises came from. She said they came from her daughter when she attempted to call 911.

Urnberg was taken into custody for preventing a victim from reporting a crime, elder abuse and domestic battery. Dispatch advised the Department of Alternative sentencing wanted her arrested for two charges of violating her probation.
