Consumer sessions scheduled for June 25 on NV Energy’s deferred energy rate adjustment applications
The Public Utilities Commission of Nevada has scheduled consumer sessions on Tuesday, June 25, to hear public comments regarding NV Energy’s applications to adjust deferred energy rates charged to customers.
NV Energy filed deferred energy applications for its Southern Nevada electric operations and Northern Nevada electric and natural gas operations. In NV Energy’s deferred energy rate applications, NV Energy seeks PUCN approval of its 2023 fuel and power expenses and its proposed reset of rates to account for changes in costs related to renewable energy and energy efficiency programs.
For Northern Nevada electric customers, NV Energy proposes to decrease rates by an estimated $5.8 million or 0.55 percent across all rate classes, which would result in an estimated decrease in the average monthly residential bill of $0.46 or 0.44 percent.
For Southern Nevada electric customers, NV Energy proposes to decrease rates by an estimated $5.1 million or 0.17 percent across all rate classes, which would result in an estimated decrease in the average monthly residential bill of $0.33, or 0.22 percent.
In NV Energy’s deferred energy rate application for its Northern Nevada natural gas operations, NV Energy requests that the PUCN approve its 2023 natural gas expenses. For gas customers in the Reno-Sparks metropolitan area, NV Energy proposes no changes to rates charged to customers through this application.
Public comment regarding these applications will be accepted in-person at the consumer sessions. Written comments also may be submitted to the PUCN electronically through the Electronic Filing System on the PUCN’s website, by hand-delivery, or via U.S. Mail.
The consumer sessions, which will be video conferenced between the PUCN’s Carson City and Las Vegas offices, are scheduled as follows:
Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at 1 and 6 p.m.
Written comments via U.S. Mail to be addressed as follows: PUCN
Attn: Docket No. 24-03003, Docket No. 24-03004 or Docket No. 24-03005 1150 E. William St., Carson City, NV 89701; or 9075 West Diablo Drive, Suite 250, Las Vegas, NV 89148
Representatives from the Nevada Bureau of Consumer Protection (BCP) will participate in the consumer sessions. The BCP, which is part of the Nevada Attorney General’s Office (775-684-1100), represents the collective interests of residential and small business customers in PUCN proceedings.
The BCP’s role is to advocate for reliable utility service at the lowest reasonable cost for those consumers. PUCN Regulatory Operations Staff and NV Energy representatives will also attend.
Public comment will be limited to the contents of these applications and may be limited to five minutes per speaker. Information about these applications can be found on the PUCN’s website: puc.nv.gov. From the top navigational bar on the home page, select Dockets and then select All Dockets to view Docket Nos. 24-03003, 24-03004, or 24-03005.
