Sunday recap: Carson City Off-Road series concludes with pro backcountry races
Sunday capped off the 3-day Carson City Off-Road mountain bike racing series in downtown Carson City as the pro men and women backcountry races highlighted the main event of the day.
Riders finishing top 5 in the standings each received a check upwards of $1,000. They also stood up on a podium with their respective competitors.
The pro men backcountry finishers included: Cypress Gorry (5th), Payson McElveen (4th), Stephen Ettinger (3rd), Keegan Swenson (2nd), and Howard Grotts (1st).
The pro women backcountry finishers included: Maghalie Rochette (5th), Evelyn Dong (4th), Katerina Nash (3rd), Amy Beisel (2nd), and Rose Grant (1st).
Nash and Grotts also received first place honors in the overall finishers with the fastest time. Resulting in another massive check for both of them.
After the fun and festivities, head director of Epic Ride and Carson City Off-Road Todd Sadow reflected on the event.
“It was really fun and exciting,” Sadow said. “This was a fantastic second year for us in Carson City.”
Rider, and fifth place finisher, Cypress Gorry described the conditions of trails.
“It was a great time coming here. Some of the roads made me ride a little tighter, but as a whole the trails were super fun," he said.
