Carson City Health and Human Services educator explains recent national accreditation
It's Your City host Cortney Bloomer features guest Valerie Cauhape, health educator with Carson City Health and Human Services. Last month the Carson City health department became Nevada's first accredited health department through the Public Health Accreditation Board.
Carson City Health and Human Services is one of fewer than 200 health departments in the nation that has achieved accreditation through PHAB since the organization launched in 2011. Go here for the original story.
The national accreditation program, jointly supported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, sets standards against which the nation’s nearly 3,000 governmental public health departments can continuously improve the quality of their services and performance. To receive accreditation, a health department must undergo a rigorous, multi- faceted, peer-reviewed assessment process to ensure it meets or exceeds a set of quality standards and measures.
It's Your City is a weekly program that highlights news, happenings and current events around Carson City. It is sponsored by Lake Tahoe Markets which holds Wednesday evening farmers markets in Carson City, 4 to 8 p.m. The new market will be open every Wednesday, 4 to 8 p.m. through the end of October at Third and Curry streets in Carson City at the new Bob McFadden Plaza. It's Your City is also sponsored by Mom & Pops Diner, 224 South Carson City.
