Got Cats? Learn about free trap, neuter and spay for feral cats in Carson City
Thanks to a generous grant from PetSmart Charities, free-roaming, feral cats in Carson City can now be spayed or neutered, vaccinated and ear-tipped for free as part of Nevada Humane Society’s Trap-Neuter-Return program.
If you’re caring for local, outdoor cats and wish to find out more about this program, please contact Nevada Humane Society Carson City at 775-887-2171.
“Female cats can have as many as three litters a year, and kittens can breed as young as four months old,” says Kimberly Wade, Communications Director for Nevada Humane Society. “Most people don’t want to see the cats they’re feeding get pregnant over and over again, so this Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program will serve as a gentle reminder to caretakers of free-roaming cat colonies to catch and sterilize their cats. In addition, this is one of the most effective ways to reduce the homeless pet population and offers health benefits to cats by reducing the risk of certain reproductive cancers and infections.”
This special free rate is available to all residents of Washoe County and Carson City. In Washoe County, contact 775-856-2000 ext. 200 and in Carson City, contact 775-887-2171.
