Carson City deputies make arrests for suspicion of heroin possession, DUI
A 40-year-old man was arrested Monday for alleged possession of a controlled substance, a felony, and two misdemeanors: possession of paraphernalia and being an ex-felon failing to register, a Carson City sheriff's report states.
Shawn Michael Siney was arrested in the 3800 block of Highway 50 East. According to the arrest report, a deputy observed the man at a casino who appeared "on the nod" or under the influence of a controlled substance. The deputy observed the man nearly hit his forehead on a slot machine and that his head was bobbing, the report states.
An officer checked the man to see if he was having a medical condition. The deputy asked for the man's name and birthday. The man advised he had been released from prison and had been living in Carson City for approximately a month, the report states.
The officer asked the man if he could conduct a search of his pockets. The man agreed and the deputy located a piece of plastic with heroin in his front pocket. He was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, the report states.
Deputies learned his criminal history that he had more than 2 felony convictions and had served two prison sentences. He was also charged as being a felon failing to register. Bail: $3,879.
In other arrests:
— A 19-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday in the 2200 block of California Street for a misdemeanor contempt of court warrant, failure to appear. The warrant was issued May 3, 2019. Bail: $1,150.
— A 31-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 10 p.m. in the area of South Deer Run Road for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI and head lamps required.
According to the arrest report a deputy was patrolling the area and observed a vehicle turn onto Laurel Road from Pinion Hills with a non-functioning front passenger side head lamp. The vehicle changed headlamps from high beam to low beams, illuminating only the driver's side headlamp.
The officer conducted a traffic stop and observed signs the man had been drinking. The man told the officer he had a couple beers with dinner. He agreed to field sobriety tests and provided a preliminary breath sample with a .141. He was arrested for suspicion of DUI. At jail he provided evidentiary breath tests of .098 and .095.
