Carson City weather: Sunny skies ahead for Memorial Day weekend
With the three-day weekend ahead, folks headed outdoors can expect a warm up with sunny skies and relatively dry conditions around the Carson City and Lake Tahoe region during the Memorial Day holiday stretch.
For Reno, Carson City, Carson Valley, and Dayton areas, daytime highs will be in the mid 70s Saturday, low to mid 80s on Sunday and upper 80s on Memorial Day, according to the National Weather Service. For the Lake Tahoe Basin, temperatures will be in the upper 60s on Saturday, lower 70s Sunday and upper 70s on Memorial Day.
Further south and into the eastern Sierra, there is a very slight chance of thunderstorms Saturday over the Sierra crest in Mono County.
However, the snowpack at the higher elevations will put a damper on these chances. There will be a better chance of thunderstorms along the Sierra Crest south of Donner Pass on Memorial Day.
With the late spring heat, high elevation — 8,000 feet-plus — snowmelt will increase. This will lead to high, fast, and cold flows on rivers and small creeks. Reservoirs will also rise notably. Thus, it is not safe to camp close to rivers, creeks, streams, or reservoirs. Nor will it be safe to float on these waterways. Go here for the small stream flood advisory for the region.
